Tammy Alsing, MA, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Therapist, MA, LMHC

“Meet Tammy”

I know it can be really hard to reach out for help when you’re going through some of the toughest, perhaps darkest times in your life. And once you’ve taken that big step, it can be equally challenging to find the right therapist match. This is an important part of the therapeutic process, so I’ll try to give you enough information about me, so you can make the best decision for yourself.

I believe that balance is the key to a wholehearted self and a fulfilling life. As such, I like to think that I offer my clients a straightforward and direct approach, balanced with compassion and patience. Together, we’ll build a trusting relationship where you’ll feel safe to work at your own pace.

I consider myself an integrative therapist blending various therapeutic approaches based on the individual needs of my clients with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and person-centered therapies, along with mindfulness and motivational methods to help my clients achieve balance and wellness in their lives.

I encourage my clients to take an active role in the therapeutic process, which requires a willingness to replace unhealthy thoughts and behaviors with more productive ones that empower them to move forward in life. I help my clients not only find the survivor in themselves, but to reach beyond and become a thriver…where true self-transformation takes place.

Who am I outside of my work-life environment? I’m a “work hard, play hard” kind of person. I’m a wife and mother of two young adults. I am happiest when I’m surrounded by friends and family, and enjoy kayaking and other outdoor activities…pretty much a Florida native.

You can find hope and healing through counseling. Whether you are looking to improve yourself, and or your relationships, heal from grief, or help your child get back on the right track...you've come to the right place!

It's time to "COPE WELL & LIVE BETTER"…You are worth it!

Professional Experience

As a clinician, I fundamentally believe in the value of investing in continuing education, getting hands-on experience working with diverse populations, and mentoring future therapists on their journey. I graduated from the University of South Florida with a master’s degree in Counseling in 1992 and became a Licensed Mental Health Therapist in 1996. I have 27 years of clinical counseling experience serving individuals, couples, and families in a variety of community settings. Additionally, as a qualified clinical supervisor for registered mental health interns, I enjoy mentoring students in my field of practice.

Among my diverse professional experiences, my professional passion has always been rooted in helping those who have experienced great loss. For nearly two decades, I served LifePath Hospice as a Bereavement Counselor, Grief Group Facilitator, Clinical Supervisor, Children’s Grief Camp Director, Program Manager, Children’s Grief Center Founder, Educator, Employee Wellness Leader, and National Speaker for the organization. One would say this makes me an expert in the area of grief and loss, but I say that this experience made me an expert in life and living.

On my path to round out my experience working with trauma, loss, and PTSD, I began serving those who serve our country. As a Military Family Life Counselor, since 2015, I’ve had the privilege and honor of supporting military service members and their families at various schools and military bases around the state, as they cope with challenges unique to military life.

I’m also experienced as a children’s therapist and enjoy working with kids of all ages. That’s right…I’m not afraid of the little people! Kids seem to connect with me almost instantly, probably because I sit at their level and communicate with them using their language…expressive play.

Along my professional journey, as a continuous learner myself, I discovered a passion for teaching. Since 2012, I’ve been a professor and clinical practicum supervisor in the Counseling and Human Services Department at Hillsborough Community College, committed to providing my students quality educational experiences.
